Other Options to Add to your Auto Insurance Policy

There are several options available to you when you feel as though you need to add additional coverage to your auto insurance policy.  In cities, such as Los Angeles, you never know when you might be in an accident and you never know whether or not the driver is going to have auto insurance.

Comprehensive coverage is often required by banks when you purchase a brand new car that you are making payments on.  If you have paid your car off, you will have the option to drop this coverage.  Comprehensive coverage reimburses you for loss due to theft or damage that has been caused by something other than a collision with another car or object.  These include accidents such as falling objects, explosions, fire, windstorms, hail, earthquakes, vandalism, riots, flood, missiles and animals. This type of coverage does have a deductible which is generally around $100-$300, deductibles may be higher if you would like to lower your premium.

Collision coverage pays for the damage to your car in the event of a collision with another car, if an object falls on your car or an object as a result of flipping over.  This may also cover pothole damage.  Collision coverage tends to have deductibles that are in the range of $250 to $1000.  Even if the accident was your own fault, the collision coverage will cover the accident minus the deductible.

Some states require that drivers maintain uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage, but others do not.  Uninsured motorist coverage will reimburse the policyholder if they are involved in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver.  Underinsured motorist coverage pays when the driver is in an accident with a driver who does not have sufficient insurance coverage to pay for the damage to the car.  The coverage also protects you in the event you are hit as a pedestrian.

There are eventually going to be times when you are driving around Los Angeles and you are involved in some sort of accident.  The bottom line is that you never know what is going to happen when you are driving in a city that has millions of other cars in it as well.  Accidents are bound to happen, but these various options that you can add to your auto insurance will assist you in paying for the damage that is caused to either you personally or your vehicle.
